The Kindergarten standards-based report card:
- includes General Learner Outcome indicators to clarify how a child is being assessed in six social and academic areas
- provides parents with a detailed report on their child's Language Arts and Mathematics achievement
The Grades 1 - 5 standards-based report cards:
- were simplified by using one set of grading scale symbols and descriptors
The Grade 6 standards-based report card:
- requires a year grade in all nine content subjects
- complies with Board of Education Middle Level Policy #4502 requiring students to earn units in preparation for high school
The Hawaii Department of Education's goal is for the standards-based report card to help parents understand their child's interests, strengths, and talents. The department's desire is for parents to become a fully participating partner in the academic and social development of their child.
